Meet the Blogger: Healthy Fit Godess

You can nominate yourself or your favorite CRB for Meet the Blogger by submitting this form.

I'm very delayed on this, but it's time for another Meet the Blogger! This time with Lenka from Healthy Fit Godess.

How long have you been blogging? Why did you start?

I started blogging in 2012 as my New Years Resolution. The year before, I had gone through a transformation of eating healthy and working out regularly. Many of my friends asked me about my healthy habits so I decided to start blogging to keep myself accountable and also share my experiences. It's turned into much more than that and I love the people that I have met through blogging, both online and in-person.

What do you do when you're not running or blogging?

I write my other blog, Nuclear Undone, and consult on nuclear policy issues. I also like to travel, read, and enjoy the warm sunshine (when possible).

Where do you live?

Bucktown, Chicago

Are you part of any running clubs?

Crew Runs the World (CRW)

How long have you been running? Why did you start?

I started running on my middle and high school cross country and track teams. My dad is athletic and loves to run so I think I got it from him. I took a break from serious running in college but got back into it when in grad school when my friends and I decided to raise money by running the Chicago Marathon in memory of a friend who passed away from colon cancer. Since then, I've done countless races and use running as my motivation to stay healthy and in shape.

How many races have you done? What distances?

Not counting cross country and track races in high school, I've probably done about 20 races at all distances, 4-mile to marathon.

What's your favorite race?

My favorite race is the BTN Big 10K in Chicago. It's an easy distance and super fun, Go Boilers!

What was your best race? Your worst?

My best race was the Hot Chocolate 15k in 2013 when I ran 8:11/mile, my best pace at any race ever! My worst was my first marathon in 2010, I did not prepare properly.

How do you like to refuel after a hard run or race?

I have my usual smoothie with extra spirulina.

Favorite piece of running gear?

I love all of my Nike running clothes.

When did you feel like a "real" runner? Or, when did you start enjoying running?

I think anyone who enjoys running is a "real" runner. So I guess I always have been.

What's your #1 piece of advice for new runners?

Get a running coach. They will teach you proper running form and motivate you to do it right without getting hurt.

What is the running accomplishment you are most proud of?

I am most proud of changing my form and running shoes to allow for a forefoot (instead of heel) strike. It changed my life. I'm faster and rarely get hurt.

Where is your favorite place to run?

Of course the Lakefront Trail is my favorite, specifically running around the Planetarium. Once "The 606" (http://the606.org) is open in Bucktown, that will be my favorite!

What's on your running bucket list?

I want to do a trail ultramarathon someday. Scott Jurek's book "Eat and Run" inspired me.

Who is your favorite running partner?

Anyone from CRW!

What other active/fitness things do you like to do?

I love cross training, sometimes more than running. I do crossfit, spinning, and hot yoga. I'll try just about any group exercise class in the city.

What is your non-running accomplishment that you are most proud of?

Leaving my full-time job and starting my business last year!
